The Cherthala FSTP is located at Anathara Veli, Cherthala Municipality, Alappuzha. It is the first faecal sludge treatment plant in Alappuzha district, with a treatment capacity of 250 KLD (250,000 litres per day). The plant uses Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology to scientifically treat septage collected from septic tanks. The treated water is intended for reuse (such as irrigation of green belts), while the stabilized sludge can be processed into manure
Smart Septage Collection System
This waste management app is designed to simplify the booking and collection of septage waste (liquid waste from septic tanks) for households, businesses, and institutions. It operates like a ride-hailing service, where users can request a waste collection, and the nearest available collection vehicle is assigned the task.
Septage Collection System
Cherthala Municipality is expanding its septage collection system by integrating private operators in the sector. The municipal council has passed a bylaw to regulate and monitor private septage collection services. Private operators can now register online with the municipality to obtain a license.
